Acting Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Christian Saunders, visits Lebanon

في اليوم الأول لتوليه منصبه، زار القائم بأعمال المفوض العام للأونروا، كريستيان ساوندرز، في 1 نيسان/أبريل، اقليم لبنان، في ظل النزاع وحالة الطوارئ الإنسانية الراهنة.
The aim of the visit was to see firsthand the UNRWA emergency response on the ground, to communicate with staff on the frontlines, to learn about the agency's work. In general, the challenges it faces in Lebanon, and meeting with key partners to strengthen coordination and support the agency's essential services and emergency operations.
Mr. Saunders visited the UNRWA shelter in Siblin training center, which currently hosts 1,803 displaced people, including displaced Palestinian refugees others Lebanese and Syrians. I accompanied the Acting Commissioner-General Director of UNRWA Affairs in Lebanon Dorothy Klaus, met with the displaced people and the centre staff and heard from them about their work and the challenges they face. Mr.Saunders was informed of UNRWA the university emergency response and basic services provided to all the displaced residents of the center.
The visit which lasted three days also included meetings during which Mr.Saunders, accompanied by Director Klaus, with Lebanese and Palestinian officials, including the President of_Lebanese Government Nawwaf Salam, President of The Paradise of Lebanese-Palestinian dialogue, Ramez Dimashqia, the Special Representative of President Mahmoud Abbas, Yasser Abbas, The State of Palestinian Ambassador Mohammed Al-Asaad. He also met the Acting Commissioner-General with senior staff UNRWA in Lebanon.
ركزت الاجتماعات على الوضع العام للاجئي فلسطين في لبنان في ظل الأزمة الحالية، واستجابة الأونروا للطوارىء. وأكدت النقاشات على الدور الحيوي الذي تؤديه الأونروا في خدمة لاجئي فلسطين، والتحديات المالية التي تواجه الوكالة، وتأثير ذلك على تقديم الخدمات الأساسية للاجئين.
كما أكدت الاجتماعات على أهمية تعزيز الدعم من المجتمع الدولي لتمويل الأونروا، لضمان استمرار الوكالة في تقديم الخدمات الأساسية والاستجابة الإنسانية.
كما ركزت النقاشات على أهمية التعاون المستمر لدعم عمل الأونروا في لبنان ومعالجة التحديات التي يواجهها لاجئو فلسطين في لبنان
