About the Embassy

The Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Lebanese Republic embodies the deep historical and fraternal relations between the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples. It represents an extension of the political and diplomatic role of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Lebanon since the 1960s, culminating in its accreditation as an official Embassy of the State of Palestine, reflecting the importance and status of the Palestinian cause at both the Arab and international levels.

Historical Milestones:

  • The Palestine Liberation Organization office was established in Lebanon in early October 1964 at the beginning of President Charles Helou's term. It was recognized as an official diplomatic mission, becoming the first PLO office to obtain this status in the Arab world. The late struggler Shafiq Al-Hout was assigned to represent the Palestine Liberation Organization in the Lebanese Republic.
  • During the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, the Israeli army occupied the Organization's headquarters in Beirut, and the office was closed after the departure of the Palestinian revolution forces.
  • The office was reopened on May 15, 2006, with official Lebanese, Palestinian, and diplomatic attendance, reaffirming the right of the Palestinian people to return. Abbas Zaki assumed the duties of PLO representative until September 2009, then Ashraf Dabbour assumed the duties of Chargé d'Affaires until April 2010.
  • Abdullah Abdullah was appointed as representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization to the Lebanese Republic until December 31, 2011.
  • During the term of Lebanese President General Michel Suleiman, it was decided to raise the level of Palestinian diplomatic representation in Lebanon to an Embassy.
  • The Embassy of the State of Palestine was officially opened in Lebanon on August 17, 2011, under the patronage of His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, and in the presence of the Prime Minister Najib Mikati.
  • Ashraf Dabbour assumed the duties of Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Lebanon effective January 1, 2012.
  • On August 27, 2025, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Al-Asaad presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of the Lebanese Republic.
